LG’s new 325-inch 8K TV takes up the entire wall, costs $ 1.7 million – Robb Report

Why have a wall-mounted TV unless it takes up the whole wall? That seems to be the question LG is asking with its new LED TVs.

The electronics giant has just unveiled its new line of Direct View LED (DVLED) extreme home theater sets, the largest of which measures a stunning 325-inch diagonal. Previously only available to business customers, gagantuan TV is now available to the rest of us, although you’ll have to part with a small fortune to get your hands on it.

Of course, LG’s DVLED isn’t the first wall-mounted TV we’ve seen – it would be the Samsung Wall – but it uses the brand’s unique LED-as-pixel display technology. Most LED TVs actually use an LCD layer to create pixels, but newer LG TVs use LED diodes alone (three for each pixel) to do this. The result is an image that promises to deliver more vivid colors and truer contrast, all without the risk of scorching that accompanies your average flat panel display. Additionally, the panel can be used to display a full image or several at once in custom shapes.

To accommodate the 325-inch unit, you’ll need space for a whole bunch of LEDs (2 to 33 million), which is why these TVs are so huge. LG offers a variety of extra large DVLED options. There is the Full-HD version which varies in size from 81 to 215 inches; a 4K option that you can get between 163 and 325 inches and, finally, an 8K model that comes in just one size: 325 inches. The top-of-the-line DVLED model packs 33 million LEDs into its 23.6-foot by 13.3-foot frame and tilts the scales with an equally breathtaking 2222 pounds. Only the installation required special training.

Pricing has yet to be announced for the full lineup, but CNET reports that the top-of-the-line model will set you back $ 1.7 million. To put that in perspective, it’s more than the cost of the Bentley Bentayga, Continental and Flying Spur. combined-with room for another supercar or two.
