LG’s newest cordless vacuum automatically drains

LG’s new vacuum, the ridiculously named LG CordZeroThinQ A9 Kompressor Plus, should be a little easier to empty than most cordless vacuums. Its charging station is equipped with a “fully automated dust collection system”, which sucks the contents of the vacuum cleaner bin into a dust bag while the device charges.

We’ve seen similar self-draining features in robot vacuums like the iRobot Roomba i7 Plus before, but LG’s solution is more unique in the world of cordless stick vacuums. Samsung sells a Clean Station to work with its upright vacuum, but using it first involves detaching the trash can from the vacuum, rather than doing it automatically while charging.

As someone who often has to reach into the trash can of their Dyson V10 vacuum to get all the dung out, I can see the value in automating the process. But for bigger jobs, like vacuuming an entire house or apartment, you’ll likely need to empty the LG CordZeroThinQ A9 Kompressor Plus halfway through cleaning rather than waiting to automatically empty it when it charges. Hopefully the charging station dust bags are big enough (and cheap enough) that they don’t need to be emptied too often.

In addition to emptying its trash, LG says the charging stand equipped with a touchscreen can also accommodate the six vacuum cleaner accessories and nozzles, like the existing stick vacuum chargers from Dyson and Xiaomi. LG accessories include a 2-in-1 combo tool, crevice tool, pet nozzle, electric carpet nozzle and electric mop. The vacuum cleaner includes two batteries and removable washable filters.

LG’s press release doesn’t say how much all of this will cost or when it will be available. However, he does promise that the LG CordZeroThinQ A9 Kompressor Plus will be on display at its virtual booth at this year’s virtual CES, so stay tuned virtually.
