LiAngelo’s ‘proud’ ball, LaMelo for joining the NBA

The off season has been a momentous one for the Ball family. First off, LaMelo Ball was taken with the No.3 pick by the Charlotte Hornets. His selection made history as he and Lonzo became the first brothers selected with the top five picks.

LiAngelo created shockwaves on Wednesday as he signed a 10-coin deal with the Detroit Pistons, making him Ball’s third brother on an NBA contract. Lonzo, LaMelo and LaVar each reacted to the signing on social media in the aftermath, but Lonzo spoke at length to the media on Thursday.

“I’m just proud of them,” he said. “I was with them the entire trip. Since we were kids, we’ve always been together (and) very close… and we’ve all done it differently. That’s the beauty, going our own way and ending up at the end is a good thing to see.

Each path was very different from the NBA for the three brothers, as Lonzo notes. He took the traditional route, playing one season at UCLA before being drafted No. 2 overall by the Lakers.

LiAngelo only spent a few months with the UCLA squad before leaving the program after his international incident in China. There is nothing traditional about his career, as the only organized basketball he has played since graduating from college has been with the JBA, LaVar’s short-lived league.

LaMelo’s path was often discussed before the draft and was equally unique with stops in Lithuania and Australia. Ultimately, the fact that they all ended up in the NBA is a testament to the hard work of each brother.
