Lil Wayne discusses suicide attempt survival at age 12 and mental health issues

Lil Wayne has revealed that he survived a suicide attempt at the age of 12.

The 38-year-old rapper discussed his mental health issues from a young age when he appeared on the Uncomfortable Conversations podcast with Emmanuel Acho.

Wayne – whose full name is Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. – recalled the traumatic incident where he shot himself in the chest with his mother’s gun following a phone call with his aunt who said he would not be allowed to continue music after dropping out of the class.

The musician described the series of events that led to his attempt where his mother found out he had skipped school and was coming home to punish him for his actions.

Fearing the repercussions, Wayne told Emmanuel he found his mother’s gun and placed it against his head.

“I was just looking and I was like you know what – I started to think I should get angry and then I noticed I didn’t have to,” he said. ‘That’s what scared me. And how I know I have mental health issues was [that] I pulled the trigger.

He called the police and then shot himself in the chest.

“As a kid all you remember is when you go to see white and I thought it was white – I swear to God I did.

“Then the beating woke me up, but then it stopped and once they stopped hitting, I said, ‘OK, they had to go. “It took too long. It took too long to bring me to this death. I was still lying there and I didn’t feel a thing, but it was taking too long. So, I said shit, I am here for a reason.

“Blood was flowing so much from my chest that it was easy for me to slip with my shirt on the wood on the floor. I have come all the way there. All the energy I had left was to kick the door, ”he said.

Law enforcement officials found his body, but instead of giving him medical treatment, they searched the home for drugs and other weapons.

A man named Uncle Bob ran up the steps and immediately helped Wayne, the rapper remembering, “I was spitting all in his face, blood and everything and all I was trying to say was that I didn’t. am not a baby. He kept saying, “Can’t you see the fucking baby on the floor with a hole in his chest?” ‘

‘He was yelling at them… and he had to be the boss because they all came into the room and was like, “Oh, sorry, boss, we called the ambulance” and he said, “I don’t m ‘crazy -.’ “

Wayne gave God credit for saving his life that day and added that he had never really been able to discuss his mental health with his mother.

“When you have no one to confide in, no one to share it with, you can’t take it to your friends at school because you always try to be cool with them, you don’t try. to let them know, “I have something going on at home,” he said. “Plus, what I never said was… the mother I knew from before that day, about my life and everyone’s lives.” I have never met, seen or heard this lady again in my life.

“So I didn’t die that day, but someone was gone. She has never been like that again, ”he continued. “As far as the parents are concerned, this was obviously a revelation for her. And what she decided to do is let my flower grow.
