Lawyers L. Lin Wood and Sidney Powell have called on President Donald Trump to seize the voting machines used in the 2020 presidential election. Wood is one of the president’s supporters who claims the election suffered from large-scale fraud.
“On behalf of We The People, I urge @realDonaldTrump to use his executive power to order the US Marshals to seize the voting machines used in the 3/11 election,” Wood tweeted Thursday.
“We the people ask only to receive what we deserve: the knowledge that our precious vote has not been stolen from us.”
Wood has taken legal action against the state of Georgia to challenge the election results there and to try to prevent their certification. The case was closed.
He retweeted another Twitter user on Thursday, claiming that Trump had the power to order the U.S. Marshalls to seize the voting machines and that that person in turn retweeted Powell.
“Impound the machines for immediate forensic inspections. If there was no fraud, the #Left should welcome it! People who have nothing to hide, are not hiding anything,” said Powell tweeted Thursday.
She retweeted Trump’s claim that the election was rigged in Wisconsin and also tagged the president. Other Twitter users have also started tweeting the idea at Trump.
Wood and Powell have become major figures in the ‘stop the steal’ movement, which claims the election was stolen from Trump through voter fraud and the use of Dominion Voting Systems machines that transferred votes to President-elect Joe Biden . There is no proof of this.
The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals denied Powell and Wood access to certain Georgia voting machines on December 4. Trump-appointed Judge Andrew Brasher dismissed the case because he found the court lacked jurisdiction.
A similar attempt to gain access to the voting machines by a Michigan group was denied by Federal District Judge Linda Parker on December 7. The same judge also dismissed one of Powell’s “Kraken” lawsuits.
Parker called a request to revoke Michigan’s certification of results and seize the voting machines “a relief that is staggering in its reach and breathtaking in its reach.”
“This case represents the phrase, ‘This ship has sailed’,” she said.
It is unclear whether Trump has the power to seize voting machines through US marshals, but his return to the White House is now effectively closed. The Electoral College confirmed Biden’s victory on December 14, and Congress will meet to ratify the results on January 6, 2021. Although a small number of Republicans have indicated they could oppose it, it is highly unlikely that this changes the result.
