Senator Lindsey Graham, RS.C., may not have put pressure on the Senate Judiciary Committee inquiry into allegations of abuse under the Foreign Intelligence Oversight Act (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act).
Addressing reporters Tuesday morning, Graham, the committee chairman, said he would "cancel" the investigation after learning that Attorney General William Barr had charged US Attorney John Durham of Connecticut to examine the origins of the investigation conducted by the Russian federal government.
"You now have a prosecutor, I do not want to interfere, I do not want to ruin his criminal investigation, and I do not want to put people in danger, so I'm going to back down," he says.
But a source told the New York Times that Durham was only conducting investigations and not criminal investigations. Informed of the difference, Graham acknowledged that his position had been changed.
"It's completely different," he told The Times, adding that he would likely be awaiting an investigation into FISA abuses by the Inspector General of the Department of Justice, Michael. Horowitz, which should be completed in late May or June.
"If there is no criminal investigation, then the surveillance will be different," he said.
