Lindsey Graham says Biden “should be impeached” for Afghanistan withdrawal

Senator Lindsey Graham said on Tuesday evening that President Joe Biden “should be impeached” for the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, which Republican lawmakers called “the most dishonorable thing a commander-in-chief has done in modern times “.

“It is a dereliction of duty on the part of the Commander-in-Chief,” Graham (R-SC) told Fox News’s “Hannity”.

“It makes it harder to fight future wars. Who is going to help us in the future after we abandon our friends in Afghanistan who fought bravely? Graham continued.

“And the likelihood of 9/11 is at its height right now, because Al Qaeda and ISIS are chasing us. If you believe that we left Afghanistan and ended the war between the United States and radical Islam, you are a fool. They’re chasing us and Joe Biden left us naked and blind in Afghanistan.

The senator was responding to Biden’s insistence earlier on Tuesday that US forces are currently able to complete their evacuation mission by the end of this month. The Taliban, who quickly regained power in Afghanistan, called August 31 a “red line” date, beyond which no US troops can stay in the country.

“The sooner we can finish, the better. Every day of operations brings additional risk to our troops, ”Biden said in remarks from the Roosevelt Room of the White House. “But completion by August 31 depends on continued Taliban cooperation and clearance to access the airport.”

Graham translated the president’s remarks to mean “he’s going to go [on the] August 31 because the Taliban told him he had to go out. There is no way in hell to get all American citizens out. We are going to leave behind thousands of Afghans who fought outside, and we are setting the stage for the rise of Al Qaeda and ISIS to attack us later.

“President Biden signed the death warrant for thousands of Afghans who have helped us,” Graham added. “He washes Afghanistan’s hands at our peril as a nation.

Lawmakers on both sides have sharply criticized the execution of the evacuation of thousands of Americans and their Afghan allies from Hamid Karzai International Airport outside the capital Kabul. Since the Taliban entered the city on August 15, thousands of people have invaded airport gates, buildings and tarmacs, trying to fly by any means necessary, even losing their lives.

Earlier Tuesday, Representatives Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) And Peter Meijer (R-Mich.) Warned after visiting the airport to observe the operation in person that US forces “will not take everyone out to time “, even if the evacuation deadline is extended to its original 9/11 date.

Graham agreed with their assessment, adding that if the administration meets the August 31 deadline, evacuation flights carrying American and Afghan civilians are expected to begin ending later this week to allow sufficient time for U.S. forces to leave the country.
