The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (September 20th)
All but snoring

It's brilliant, it's dioramic and it's just as difficult as it was over 25 years ago. Unlike the demo of E3 2019 that kicked you into the early moments of the game, the new gameplay presented at PAX West dropped us right from the start of the third dungeon: the ingeniously crafted Key Cavern. The doors are barred with locks and keys and are found much faster than standard levels. Most puzzles in each room give you a key and the overall dungeon puzzle acts like a maze when you unlock rooms and draw a path to the boss.

One thing is very clear: this remake, despite a complete graphic overhaul, remains very faithful to the original. The demo ended with a nice recreation of the Slime Eye boss. The fight unfolds the same way, but the added reflective shine of the mud and the animated eyes of the enemy remind us why a recess at the pace of the parades offers many benefits.

The original version of Game Boy's Link's Awakening was difficult, well designed and had a surprising amount of heart. From the elements highlighted up to now, the remake brings all this back, but it presents no chance to find new secrets, new hidden rooms or enemies designed only for the Switch version.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Final Edition (27th of September)
Breath in the past

If you played a version of Dragon Quest XIyou will know in what way you engage with the definitive edition. This is a RPG, a Japanese addition, so you will find yourself running around fields fighting monsters with a group of four, casting spells and gaining XP. What may not be so obvious is a new mode that allows you to play the entire game in a classic 2D style. Everything is redone to adapt to the retro feeling, including the sprite work for all the characters and all the worlds, as well as the music that can be switched from symphonic to synthesized at any time. It's a very cool addition that's more than just a simple feature. It's quite possible to replay all the adventure in this retro style and there are even gameplay changes such as randomly generated battle encounters that offer additional differences.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition (October 15)
It works!

Yes, there are moments that look muddy and it will take some time to get used to the extra blur, but The witcher 3, one of the most comprehensive and detailed open world games on the market, does not only work on a portable device, but does it effectively. There were no drops in the frame and everything remained consistent throughout the PAX demo. Once you get used to the reduced resolution, there is nothing to worry about.

For a quick test, I took Geralt to the busiest city in the world, White Orchard. The result? Ten houses, a dozen villagers and, above all, no slowdown.

Luigi's Mansion 3 (October 31)
Bad Woods

I got bogged down in the weeds during my time with Luigi's Mansion 3. The demo was a new one, with a haunted hotel floor infested with evil trees, enchanted flowers and vines that crushed the walls and opened new paths.

The section, which would take about 10 to 15 minutes during a normal game, was a 30-minute test during the demonstration. It was not because I did not know what to do, but rather that each piece offered so many little tricks and hidden treasures to discover that it was difficult to move from one room to another without checking in the least crannies. One of these rooms, for example, hid a secret gem above the bed, an invisible painting holding gold bars on the left wall behind vines, a drain pipe for Goo-igi to pass through and dozens cash. There was even a room with a chain saw that you could turn on to slice all the furniture.

Luigi's Mansion 3 has an astonishing amount of detail, and although Nintendo has not revealed the total number of floors in its haunted hotel for the moment, there is little concern that other places are not up to the standard set by the PAX demo.

Pokémon sword and shield (November 15)
A familiar experience

For PAX West, Nintendo chose to keep the same demo that was used in E3 2019. The following e-mail updates and announcements from Pokémon The games will experience both the excitement of the new and adorable pocket monsters and the vocal critics Pokemon Sword and Shield for some strange game choices.

For those unfamiliar with the demo, the Playable Section at the 2019 E3 and PAX events focuses on an Aquatic Gymnasium where you compete against three coaches and a gym manager. A series of paths and valves attached to the corresponding geysers has brought some flavor to the gym, but the puzzle is not that complicated and it looks more like a chore. The player's Pokémon arsenal included the three starters, while his rivals chased several newly revealed monsters.
