Linux Lite 4.4 is ready to replace Microsoft Windows on your aging PC

[ad_1]

One of the advantages of operating systems based on the Linux kernel is that they can sometimes be very light. Why is it important? Well, when an operating system uses very few resources, it can breathe new life into an aging PC. In other words, it's not because Windows 7 or Windows 10 runs molasses on your old computer that you have to buy a new one. The good distribution of Linux can give the impression that your old PC is fast and new.

One of the most popular lightweight Linux operating systems is Linux Lite. Heck, the name of the distribution tells you that it is designed to use few resources! Version 4.4 is now available and, as usual, it is based on the latest Ubuntu LTS – 18.04. The Xfce desktop environment will seem familiar to those who switch from Windows. New Linux users will also appreciate easy access to many popular programs, such as Skype, Steam and Spotify. Even the great alternative of Microsoft Office, LibreOffice, is included.

Jerry Bezencon, creator of Linux Lite, shares the following upgraded packages. Although the 5.0 kernel is not available by default, it can apparently be added via a preconfigured repository. Most users should still stay with 4.x for the moment.

  • Web Browser – Firefox 65.0 Quantum
  • Email Client – Thunderbird 60.4.0
  • Office Suite – LibreOffice 6.0.7.3
  • Multimedia player – VLC 3.0.4
  • Image Editor – Gimp 2.10.8
  • System Backup and Restore – Timeshift 19.0.1
  • File Manager – Thunar 1.6.15
  • Base: Ubuntu 18.04.2
  • Core: 4.15.0-45

Bezencon also shares some significant changes below.

  • Lite Software – adding Sound Juicer
  • Lite Themes – Updated Icons
  • Lite Welcome – minor changes
  • Volume level – the dual level volume bug has been removed
  • Removed all references to Google+ because this service must close on April 2, 2019.
  • Transferred from Betas to RC versions
  • We switched from Sourceforge distributed servers to OSDN, the latter contributing to the financing of our project. Their systems and mirror choices are virtually similar
  • Minor bug fixes and improvements

If you want to download Linux Lite 4.4, you can enter the ISO here. Please note: UEFI not being supported with Linux Lite, you may need to enable legacy mode in your computer's BIOS for the installation to succeed. The system requirements are very small: a 64-bit 1 GHz processor, a memory of 768 MB and only 8 GB of storage space. Those with 32-bit processors are excluded from the party and should probably consider buying a new computer at this point, such as the System76 Darter Pro.

Are you trying to try Linux Lite 4.4 instead of Windows 7, which will soon be unsupported, or Windows 10, much maligned? Please tell me in the comments below.
