Paris-Saint Germain hope to complete the signing of Lionel Messi within the next 48 hours, Athleticism understand.

It is understood that free agent Messi will receive a registration fee of 25 million euros and has been offered a two-year contract with a net salary of 25 million euros per year; the agreement includes a third year option at the same rate.

Athleticism reported Thursday night that the Argentine made a direct approach to PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is also from Argentina.

PSG have become increasingly confident in securing the striker’s signature in recent days, with a deal coming closer.

A separate source close to the deal insisted on Sunday night that there was not yet a full deal between Messi and PSG, although no one disputes that the French capital will be his destination.

Barcelona confirmed in a statement on Thursday that Messi, who has been a free agent since July 1, when his contract with the club expired, will not stay at the club “due to financial and structural obstacles”.

On Sunday morning, Messi broke down in tears when he confirmed he was leaving Barcelona after 21 years in his farewell press conference. He said: “This year my family and I were convinced that we were going to stay here at home, that’s what we all wanted. We thought we would stay here in Barcelona. The time we have spent here has been amazing. Today I have to say goodbye to all of this.
