Lionel Messi tells Ronald Koeman he’s closer to leaving than to staying

Lionel Messi has reportedly interrupted his vacation to meet new manager Ronald Koeman to discuss his future at Barcelona.

According to RAC1, the Argentina international told the new boss that for the moment “he does not see his future clearly at Barca” and is leaning more towards the departure than towards the maintenance.

The couple met at Messi’s home and the captain made it clear how unhappy he is with the club following the 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Yet Messi is also aware that it won’t be easy to leave the club now. He is still under contract until 2021 and has a release clause set at € 700million.

Koeman said during his unveiling yesterday that he wanted to keep Messi at the club, but he also said he “only wanted to work with players who want to be here.”

It seems Messi still has not made up his mind on his future yet and will have to be convinced that it is worth staying at Camp Nou.
