The Indianapolis Colts have had a week off and are no doubt ready to return to the field. They will face the Detroit Lions at 1 p.m. ET Sunday at Ford Field. If the game looks like Detroit’s 39-35 victory in their previous September 2016 meeting, the scorer will be very busy.
The Colts didn’t have too much leeway in their fight against the Cincinnati Bengals two weeks ago, but they still came away with a 31-27 victory. The victory came thanks to a strong push after the first quarter to overcome a deficit of 14 to nothing. Indianapolis quarterback Philip Rivers threw it in for three touchdowns and 371 yards on 44 attempts. Rivers finished with a 154.70 passer rating.
Detroit can thank their lucky stars for their victory over the Atlanta Falcons last week. The final score was a hard-fought 23-22. Detroit QB Matthew Stafford earned his paycheck passing for a TD and 340 yards on 36 attempts. It was Stafford’s first 300-plus-yard effort this season.
Special teams collected 11 points for the Lions. K Matt Prater threw three field goals, the longest with 51 yards in the third quarter, which ultimately explained the difference in the game.
The Colts are the favorites in this one, with an expected margin of victory of 3.5 points. It might not be the best time to take on Indianapolis ATS as they’ve let punters down in the last two straight games.
The victories took Indianapolis to 4-2 and Detroit to 3-3. A pair of defensive numbers to keep in mind before kick-off: Indianapolis comes into play after picking up the ball ten times, good for the league’s first. As for the Lions, they rank fourth in the NFL when it comes to forced fumbles, having caused six this season.
