The Brewers have announced the 26-man roster they will have for an NLDS showdown against the Braves this morning. Left handed Brent Suter At first, that seemed like a surprising omission, but the Brewers reported that Suter was out for at least this series due to a “minor” right oblique strain. Rather than swapping Suter for another left-hander, like Hoby milner or acquisition date Daniel norris, they will rather go with three receivers. Here’s how the list breaks down …

Suter’s loss is notable. Despite being a far cry from the familiar name of teammate Josh Hader, Suter has quietly been brilliant for the Brewers since his 2019 return from Tommy John surgery. In 123 1/3 innings since being reinstated from the injured roster that season, Suter has a 2.70 ERA with a strikeout rate of 24.1%, an exceptional walk rate. 5.9% and an equally high takedown rate of 52.2%. He’s no stranger to working multiple innings, and he doesn’t have a discernible platoon division to talk about. Since 2019, lefties have beaten .227 / .280 / .393 against Suter, while righties have cut .241 / .288 / .365. The fact that the team specified that the injury was of a “minor” nature gives hope that he could return for a possible NLCS or World Series race, but no timeline for his recovery has been officially announced.
Milwaukee surely had higher hopes for Norris when he acquired the Tigers just before the trade deadline. Beyond the 5.54 ERA he posted in Detroit this season, Norris had posted strong strikeout, dropout, home run and strike rates before the rally. However, each of those rates moved in the wrong direction after its acquisition, and its walking rate jumped almost seven percent: from 9.6 to 16.5.
The inclusion of Jackie Bradley Jr. on the roster is a testament to his brilliant glove work, which could come into play late in close Brew Crew games. After hitting just .163 / .236 / .261 in his debut season with Milwaukee, there was certainly a case for making different use of that roster spot, but Bradley still recorded nine defensive points saved, six above par outs and an ultimate zone of 7.1 score in 722 innings at center field.
