Listen to a Shelby Mustang GT350 Hit 172 MPH on the highway – Robb Report

The Ford Mustang Shelby 350 GT was never designed for Europe, but if a new video is anything to go by, it’s more than a game for the continent’s most demanding roads.

At the end of last year, the popular European car YouTubers AutoTopNL managed to get their hands on one of Ford’s most powerful modern muscle cars and take a spin on the German Autobahn. But you don’t need to watch the resulting video (via Road and track) to know the car was up to the task. Just listen to the roar of its V-8 as it eclipses 170 km / h.

YouTubers were able to scream at speeds that would have thrown them in jail in the United States, as large portions of the public highway system, mostly in non-urbanized areas, are not subject to federally imposed speed limits. Thanks to that, towards the end of the video (at around 3:10), AutoTopNL can be seen pushing the white GT350 to a top speed of 172 mph and holding it there for a full 10 seconds. But while the driver seems to be having fun putting the car to the test, the clip features a warning that states, in no uncertain terms, “DO NOT TRY! This part of the German Autobahn has No speed limit. “

As impressive as the ‘Stang looks and sounds, its performance should come as no surprise. The beloved GT350, which was just discontinued after six years, gets its power from a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter flat-cranked V8 that can produce 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of twist and red lines at 8,250 rpm. Mated to a Tremec 3160 six-speed manual transmission, the towering mill can propel the car from zero to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 mph. Indeed, the beefy coupe is even faster than what is shown in the video.

All that power comes at a surprisingly reasonable cost. The 2020 GT350 started at $ 61,365. But now that the car is no longer manufactured – it’s replaced by the Mach 1 Limited Edition – don’t be surprised if that price starts to climb in the aftermarket.
