Foo Fighters released their latest single, “Waiting On A War” – you can hear the new song below.

The track is the latest single from the band’s tenth studio album, Medicine At Midnight, due out on February 5.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl shared a few words about the tune’s broader meaning in a statement first released by the group yesterday (Jan. 13).

“As a child growing up in the Washington DC suburbs, I was always afraid of war,” he writes. “I had nightmares of missiles in the sky and soldiers in my backyard, possibly sparked by the political tension of the early 1980s and my proximity to the nation’s Capitol. My youth was spent under the black cloud of a hopeless future.

“Waiting On A War” is out today (January 14) as promised, and you can hear it in full below.

Grohl has already said NME how those “nightmares of missiles in the sky and soldiers in my backyard” came full circle after her daughter asked her in 2019 if the United States was on the brink of nuclear war with North Korea.

“I was taking my daughter to school and that was around the time the United States and North Korea were increasing tensions between them and she had seen it on the news,” recalls the leader.

“She just asked me, ‘Daddy, are we going to war’? It reminded me of how I felt when I was his age, and I just thought, “What a fucking slut!

“How depressing is it that childhood can be robbed of this beauty and innocence by this dark sense of dread? So that’s what “Waiting On A War” is. “

‘Waiting On A War’ follows on from previously released ‘Medicine At Midnight’ tracks ‘Shame Shame’ and ‘No Son Of Mine’.

Foo Fighters continues to mark its 25th anniversary, with the group announcing this week that they have teamed up with Vans to release a special pair of shoes to mark the milestone.
