Listen to the first audio of Mars with Perseverance Rover

Always wanted to discover the SoundCloud of a planet? You can now, thanks to NASA’s Mars Perseverance Rover. The space agency uploaded the very first audio recording of Mars to the music-sharing website on Monday. While the 18-second clip is mostly just ambient noise, it’s still a landmark achievement, according to NASA. “We know the public is fascinated with exploring Mars, so we added the EDL Cam microphone to the vehicle as we were hoping it could enhance the experience, especially for visually impaired space fans, and engage and inspire people around the world, ”Dave Gruel, the rover’s chief microphone and video systems engineer said in a press release.
