Anthony has been a free agent since 2018, when the basketball player left the Houston Rockets.
The player was hoping to get his attention at the World Cup in China, but the US team leaders told him no.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, US team manager Jerry Colangelo revealed it, saying the three-time Olympic champion would not join the team.
"I love Carmelo. His contribution is enormous. He was a great national player. However, we went in the other direction and its presence could become an obstacle. I understand why he applied for the national team. He tries to resurrect himself. I think that's what he has to do in the NBA, "Colangelo said.
C.Anthony, 35, played 16 seasons in the NBA, helping the US national team to become Olympic champion three times in a row – in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
