Nokia 9 PureView: a fool to five, who can be fascinated (but not necessarily)

Not at all useless: the renowned Nokia phones have a remarkable ability to admire their poor quality at a very good price recently. However, something was missing at the company. Something that would catch the eye and stand out from the crowd. Something that could be called a lighthouse. Here is a device like the one that became Nokia 9 PureView with a system with five cameras.

And if, at the front, it's a "phone like a phone" (maybe even an obsolete and obscure design, with a high heel and a thick fold above and below the screen), we will then see a completely different picture that can fascinate and cause something similar to the fear of the spider – there are up to seven holes on the back, arranged in the form of six-leafed flower.

Even more unusual technologies are the basis of its unusual appearance: the phone was created on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 platform, which is no longer suitable for this year's flagship product. In addition, this platform only allows to "repair" a camera system consisting of three lenses without further modification. Nokia had to take action: install an additional Light imaging processor.

For photo enthusiasts, it may seem odd that Nokia has installed on this phone a quintet of nearly identical 12 MP cameras – two of them will capture the image in a colorful RGB spectrum, three others will have a black and white image. Two more back holes will be taken by the flash and the Time of Flight camera (distance to improve the focus). All lenses collected and transferred to the sensors, according to HMD representatives, will be combined into a 12 MP total resolution image providing better quality bokeh effects through overlapping fields of view, more detailed photos, and better color reproduction.

The manufacturer officially ensures that this device will be efficient enough to extract an image without delay. In fact, after attempting to take a picture on the exhibition stand, I had to notice that the snapshot of the final photo was of very poor quality – such a preview option – and that the final high-definition video had to wait five seconds. Such a long photo processing makes it difficult to imagine how the phone will be able to capture long series of photos, but we hope to check it after receiving the device for a long time.

The other technical features would not have to be ashamed of the modern star: a 2K resolution screen of 6 inches diagonally, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of permanent memory. And its price does not bother: it has already been announced that it would cost $ 600 and will be available in March.

Disappointed by the fact that the builders have installed the latest processor on the last phone, HMD is quiet: the same phone version is being developed with the platform version Snapdragon 855. Certainly, the release date of the version update and its cost are not yet known.
