Scientists have discovered the twin of the sun – DELFI Science

Until now, this has been complicated because of the lack of reliable data on the chemical composition of stars and inaccurate age. At present, using the high-resolution spectra and Gaia space observatory data on the distances between stars, astronomers have identified four stars likely to be solar nights. These stars are selected from 17,000 stars whose spectra are measured by the AMBRE project for the badysis of stars near the sun.

The choice of 55 stars with a heavier chemical element in helium is very similar to the Sun, astronomers have identified the age of these stars and the abundance of simple elements, thereby reducing the four-star sample. Two of them managed to measure the relative abundance of two carbon isotopes – elementary varieties that differ only in the number of neutrons in the nucleus. In a star, it corresponds perfectly to the value of the Sun. HD186302 is currently the most likely Solar Twin.

This star is a little colder than the Sun and is 90 km from us – not too big compared to the galactic gauge. The interest of this study is not only the discovery of the twilight of the sun, but also the demonstration that the measurement of the relative abundance of chemical isotopes makes it possible to better categorize the stars as the abundance of 39; chemical elements and ages.
