After the reorganization of the regional centers for addictive diseases, the heads of all branches had to be selected on a competitive basis. At the end of April, a competition was launched for the head of the Klaipėda branch of the Republican Center for Addictive Diseases.

Two people were appointed to this post, the former director decided not to participate in the contest.

– Interview with the new head of the branch of Klaipėda Vaida Karulaitiene

– Why did you decide to participate in the competition of the leaders of this center?

– The weather was not on the spot, wanted to come true, do it more than I did until here. I participated in the competition and I managed to win it.

Moreover, I have always had the desire to help others, to change, to improve our health services, to go forward. Today, there is such a demand in Klaipeda, and now opportunities have emerged. I hope that I will succeed in accomplishing what I put

– How do you evaluate the beginning of your work? Could you have faced challenges?

– It is not easy to become familiar with the laws, regulations, procedures and procedures in effect in the institution.

I'm happy with my team – it's a great team of professionals who are willing to work a lot.

– Currently, the finalization of the range of services and services is being finalized and the most important issues are currently being solved for you. procedures. The most important task in Klaipėda is to raise public awareness of diseases and drug treatment services, reduce the stigma badociated with the disease and its treatment, and become attractive to the public. As a Republican center for addictive diseases, we will strive to continually improve the quality and accessibility of services

– How do you evaluate the prospects of treating addictive diseases?

– First of all, the treatment of the branch of Klaipėda, which meet all the requirements of the premises. Facing this task, I think, would reduce stigma.

Addiction is not just symptomatic treatment. It is not enough to cure abstinence, patients must be involved in the long-term recovery process, where specialists work in complex ways, help strengthen social skills, self-badysis, cognitive and others. All this requires a person to change the way of life and to be in good health.

– There are more and more addictions in society, but in our country this area is rather disadvantaged. In the Klaipėda branch, there is a shortage of psychiatrists and other employees year after year. Is it a junk, a government mentality?

– The situation is constantly changing, currently four doctors are working at the Klaipėda branch and two more are expected to be adopted. Doctors, social workers, psychologists and nurses are highly qualified specialists who know how to help patients.

After the creation of the Republican Center for Addictive Diseases, the situation improves: it offers more opportunities for patients, broadens the range of treatment services. Addiction diseases have become more common in recent years and so it is hoped that a better educated society will recognize the symptoms of drug use or addiction in a timely manner and will seek help without falling into the disease. . Currently, the number of patients in methadone pharmacotherapy and clinics in Minnesota is increasing in the Klaipėda branch.

The cooperation of our branch with other medical institutions, social badistance, child rights protection services, repressive institutions is strengthening. The quality of services has increased, we have become stronger, and finally the attention is focused on this area. I am optimistic
