Pulmonary inflammation of the eyelids, sinusitis, laryngitis, inflammation of the brain (encephalitis), inflammation of the intestine (enterocolitis) may occur. The most effective way to prevent this disease is vaccination. The combined vaccine against measles and epidemic mouthwash (MMR) in Lithuania is vaccinated according to the schedule of preventive vaccination of children in the Republic of Lithuania. At the expense of the state, children carrying the MMR vaccine are vaccinated twice: 15 to 16 months. and 6-7 m. age This creates long-term immunity.
People who do not know their immunization status or are vaccinated with a single dose of MMR vaccine are advised to contact a GP and get vaccinated. Immunization not only protects the person against dangerous infectious diseases, but also helps to establish a collective immunity that is created when a sufficient proportion of the population is vaccinated, thereby protecting the society from spreading from infection, from man to man.
Measles outbreaks are reported in European countries and around the world, so unvaccinated travelers are at risk of contracting this infectious disease. Risks also occur for their loved ones because returning travelers can spread the infection.
