LIVE UPDATES: Biden’s election victory over challenge from Cruz and other GOP senators

A group of GOP senators led by Sen. Ted Cruz, of R-Texas, said on Wednesday they would oppose certification of presidential election results that favored Democrat Joe Biden over President Trump – unless there is a 10-day emergency audit of the results by an electoral commission.

Cruz and the other senators assert that the November 3 elections “included unprecedented allegations of electoral fraud and illegal conduct”.

Joining Cruz was the Meaning. Ron Johnson, R-Wis .; James Lankford, R-Okla .; Steve Daines, R-Mont .; John Kennedy, R-La .; Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., And Mike Braun, R-Ind.; as well as Cynthia Lummis, elected from the Sens. Roger Marshall, R-Kansas; Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn., And Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala.

Their effort is separate from that announced by Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., Who said last week that he would oppose what he claims is the failure of some states – notably Pennsylvania – to follow. their own electoral laws.

Biden’s inauguration is slated for Jan.20.
