News of Mohamed Salah’s positive coronavirus test adds yet another potential blow to Liverpool squad’s options.
The Egyptian FA initially confirmed that the R eds star returned a positive test for Covid-19 but showed no symptoms.
The account then deleted the tweet and replaced it with another statement.
They have since suggested that there might now be “retests”. Another update reads: “The laboratories of the Ministry of Health have indicated that three players from the Egyptian and Togolese teams tested positive ahead of the match between the two teams tomorrow.
“Further testing will be conducted for the aforementioned players to determine their stance on participation.”
Egyptian reports claimed he returned a second positive result, meaning he would be subject to the government’s self-isolation rules.
The 28-year-old is currently on international duty with Egypt and has isolated himself from his teammates.

A positive case will instantly exclude Salah from the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Togo on Saturday and Tuesday.
The government’s Covid rules state that anyone who tests positive must self-isolate for 10 days from the time the test was taken if they are not showing symptoms.
Still, it may well be longer if Salah develops symptoms, with the government also confirming that people would have to self-isolate for an additional 10 days if symptoms develop during their period of isolation.
People are allowed to stop isolating themselves after 10 days if they just have a cough or are asymptomatic.
However, they must continue to self-isolate after these 10 days if there are other symptoms such as a high temperature.
For Salah, that means another positive test would rule him out permanently from Liverpool’s next game, which is against Leicester City on November 21.
The Reds next face Atalanta on November 25 before traveling to Brighton on November 28, and if Salah does not develop symptoms then he will be free to play in those games.
Still, there will be question marks over whether Salah would play against Atalanta even if he is legally capable of doing so.
The striker is currently absent on an international mission, so he will not be able to return to England until his period of self-isolation is over.
While elite athletes like Salah aren’t subject to the same quarantine rules as the rest of the country, that means he won’t return to England until November 24 – just a day before the Reds face Atalanta in Champions League.
