Liverpool teenager Harvey Elliott suffered a dislocated ankle during his side’s visit to Leeds United on Sunday.
18-year-old Elliott received a challenge from Pascal Struijk in the second half. Both groups of players were immediately concerned following the incident and Struijk was sent off in the 60th minute following the challenge.
Elliott was treated in the field for several minutes before being taken off the field on a stretcher. He was replaced by Jordan Henderson.
As he was taken off the pitch, sections of Leeds supporters cheered on Elliott and the teenager responded by clapping as well.
After the game, Jurgen Klopp opened up about Elliott’s injury. He said: “It’s a bad injury. Ankle, I heard she was dislocated. We could put it back. He’s at the hospital.
“I do not care [if it was a red card], this does not concern me. It’s a serious injury, certainly for an 18-year-old boy. The red card is not important. We can play for two or three weeks, Harvey won’t.
Marcelo Bielsa said: “Pascal got the ball back. The action to retrieve the ball did not have an offense. But I feel like the movement of the rest of his body after he picked up the ball made him touch Elliott. I am quite sure there was no bad intention.
“Obviously, there was imprudence or an excess of power. These types of recovery are quite common. The difference here was that following with Pascal’s speed and power cut the player off and caused the injury. I very much regret that such a young player playing at such a high level has been interrupted, I hope he can come back.

Before Elliott’s injury, Liverpool had taken a 2-0 lead after goals from Mohamed Salah and Fabinho on either side of the break. Sadio Mane scored late in the second half to see the game end 3-0.
