LLCHD reports another death from COVID-19

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department announced on Friday that one more resident has died from COVID-19. Death was a man in his 80s who died at home. The total death toll in Lancaster County is now 221. On behalf of the city, Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird offers his condolences to his family and friends.

LLCHD reports 45 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lancaster County, bringing the community total to 28,086.

Recoveries: 13 343

Weekly positivity rate:

  • February 14 to 20: 24 percent
  • February 21 to 26: 20.7 percent

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 positive patients: 37 with 22 from Lancaster County and 15 other communities (none on the fans).

Doses of vaccine administered: over 76,870

An online COVID-19 vaccine registration form for residents of Lancaster County is available at COVID19.lincoln.ne.gov. Those who do not have online access or need help can call LLCHD’s COVID-19 hotline at 402-441-8006 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays to register.

The vaccine is not yet available to the general public. As vaccine doses become available, registrants will have an appointment to be vaccinated. Vaccination appointments depend on vaccine supply and are not tied to the order in which people register. Registration is open to all residents of the county, but those who are in Phase1B – those aged 65 and over and those with underlying medical conditions – are encouraged to register.

The COVID-19 risk dial is medium yellow, indicating a moderate risk of the virus spreading. Recommendations include:

  • Careful expansion of interactions with others – preferred outdoor activities
  • Continue to wear a mask and stay away when you are surrounded by other people outside your home.
  • Participate in businesses, gatherings and events only with modifications (i.e. physical distance, face masks and capacity limits)
  • Follow CDC travel guidelines

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath, repeated tremors accompanied by chills, repeated muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell. Those who have any of these symptoms or who have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 are advised to get tested immediately. The testing process begins with a free online risk assessment available at BryanHealth.com, CHIHealth.com, or TestNebraska.com.

Drive-through tests are available from:

  • CHI Health St. Elizabeth: Autumn Ridge Family Medicine, 5000 North 26th St. and Southwest Family Health, 1240 Aries Drive. Call one of the two sites to make an appointment: Autumn Ridge, 402-435-5300 and South West Family, 402-420-1300.
  • Nebraska Test: Gateway Mall, 6100 “W” Street, North Parking Lot of the Old Sears Store. The tests are carried out from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday. For more information call 402-207-9377
