LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department announced on Saturday that another resident has died from COVID-19, bringing the total death toll in County of Lancaster. in his 80s. LLCHD is today reporting 422 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lancaster County, bringing the community total to 14,428.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath, repeated tremors accompanied by chills, repeated muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell. If you have symptoms, get tested. Testing is now open to all residents of Lancaster County by appointment only.
The testing process begins with a free online risk assessment available at BryanHealth.com, CHIHealth.com, or TestNebraska.com. In-car test sites include:
- Bryan Health: Former Graham tire store, northeast corner of 19th and “O” streets.
- Nebraska Test: Starting Monday, November 23, the Gateway Mall, 6100 “O” St., will be located in the north parking lot of the former Sears store. The new location will have a temperature-controlled driving service that can accommodate 800 to 1,000 tests per day. The COVID-19 risk dial remains in “red”, indicating a serious risk of the virus spreading. Residents are encouraged to follow these recommendations to protect themselves and others:
- Stay home unless you are traveling for work, school, food, or health care, or to see if others may need help.
- Work from home if possible.
- Wear a face mask when interacting with someone outside of your home.
- Stay at least six feet from anyone outside your home.
- Avoid gatherings.
- Visit only businesses and participate in activities where public health guidelines are followed. Guidelines include mask wear, physical distance, and capacity limits.
- Follow the Centers for Disease Control’s travel guidelines at cdc.gov.
LLCHD reminds the public that a flu shot is the most effective way to reduce the risk of getting the flu. The flu shot is readily available and the public is encouraged to contact health care providers or find a community flu shot location in November.
