ROCK ISLAND, Ill (KWQC) – LME trucking company Inc. announced Friday the cessation of its activities.

The carrier, which has a terminal at Rock Island, has more than 600 drivers driving 1,200 tractors and trailers transporting goods in the Midwest, according to the company's website.

LME posted Friday on its website the company "will no longer pick up or deliver freight due to unforeseen circumstances and has ceased operations."

The company serves all of Iowa and Illinois, among other Midwestern states, and has a list of customers including John Deere and 3M.

KCCI said LME employees had learned of the company's closure at a meeting on Thursday, and the directors were unsure if the workers would be paid.

Viewers with relatives working at Rock Island's LME terminal told KWQC that employees at the site were to be paid on Friday, but were not receiving pay checks.

A viewer said his boyfriend worked all day at the Rock Island terminal on Thursday to learn that the company had shut down on Thursday night.
