Brendon Ring, who owns the local base Nighttown establishment, told CNN he was having lunch at his restaurant when a semi-regular customer came over and left his check at his table which included a tip of $ 3,000.

“Covid is so out of control in Ohio that I have decided to voluntarily close until January,” Ring said.

“We’ve been a little busy Sunday with a lot of our regulars coming over since it was our last day … this guy came in and walked over to the bar and ordered a pint of Stella and he had some sips and said to the manager, “Can I just get my check?” ‘

The man, whom Ring said he wanted to remain anonymous, then brought him to Ring’s table and told him to share it with the waiters.

He said, ‘Good luck to you guys and we’ll see you when you reopen,’ Ring said.

When Ring first looked at the check he thought it was a $ 300 tip, but after putting on his glasses he realized he had missed a zero. It was a tip of $ 3,000 on a $ 7 bill. He ran to the customer to make sure he hadn’t made a mistake.

Brendan Ring holds the check with the funky tip.

“He said, ‘No, that’s what I wanted. Share it with the staff, good luck to you guys, Merry Christmas and see you soon when you get back. “‘

Ring said he was known to be a joker with the staff – so when he shared the news with one of his waitresses, she thought he was playing a prank.

“She said, ‘Yeah, that’s right, you did that’… the next waiter, I showed it too, she started crying, she knew it was legitimate,” he said.

There were four waiters working on Sundays, and each of them received $ 750 from the tip.

Ring cannot believe not only the generosity of his client, but how the outpouring of love for the simple story.

Ring, who is from Ireland, said even his sister, who still lives there, saw the story in her diary.

“We’re all so desperate for some uplifting news, if it was a normal year, yes that would be a good story, but it’s a big story because of the year we’re in,” Ring said. “The outpouring of love for this story has been universal.”
