London Gatwick Airport temporarily suspended its air operations due to problems with the airport's air traffic control tower on Wednesday night.
The problems started around 5 pm local time. The shutdown lasted nearly two hours and resulted in the diversion of at least two dozen incoming flights to other airports.
Gatwick Airport said it was working with ANS, its air traffic control service provider, to solve the problem.
UPDATE Wednesday 7:00 pm: All flights to Gatwick remain suspended due to problems with air traffic control systems. We apologize to the passengers concerned. If you have to catch the plane tonight, we advise you to check the status of your flight with your airline before you go to the airport.

Travelers departing from or departing from Gatwick are advised to urgently check their flight status as flights will be affected for the remainder of the day and cancellations are possible.
The hub, used mainly by low-cost airlines, is the second busiest airport in the United Kingdom and the eighth largest passenger airport in Europe. More than 46 million travelers have transited through Gatwick Airport in 2018.
At the end of last year, during the Christmas season, Gatwick was closed for 30 hours due to drones on the airfield.
