Have you ever visited a hotel and thought to yourself: "God, this place would be so much better if the whole roof was a pool"? Well, if you live in the UK, today is your lucky day!
Compass Pools, a UK-based swimming pool manufacturer, is currently building what it calls "Infinity London," a 55-story skyscraper topped with a 360-degree pool with transparent walls. The building, which was designed from top to bottom by the company, will feature a five-star hotel and the pool should be the main attraction.

Building a pool that can be glued to the top of a 55-storey building has posed serious technical problems for the company, but she thinks she understands everything. Rather than glass, the entire pool will be acrylic, with a transparent background that will allow visitors from lower floors to see the pool and swimmers above.
Entering and leaving the pool would be easy with some sort of outside staircase, but the building designers did not want to clutter the lateral profile of the structure with such objects. "Normally, a simple ladder would suffice, but we did not want a staircase outside the building or in the pool, it would ruin the view. And of course, you also do not want 600,000 liters of water to flow through the building, "the company says.
Compass Pools had a different idea, based on the airlock of a submarine. It is described as "spiral staircase" which "[rise] from the pool when someone wants to come in or out. The company says that Infinity London could be under construction by 2020 "if all partners and contractors are confirmed."
It's incredibly strange, impressive and terrifying at the same time. The company, which calls the experiment "swimming that defies death," clearly bet that many people will be willing to take the risk.
