Country House was greatly upset by the Kentucky derby as the stewards awarded the long-shot 65-1 win over an objection that Maximum Security, the first horse to cross the finish line, had impeded the course of several horses.

Maximum Security had seemed to win the 145th Derby by 1½ lengths in the mud after taking control of the last lap at Churchill Downs. The objection was filed and the stewards took about 20 minutes to review the race from several angles before declaring Winner Country House.

Flavien Prat jockey then celebrated the event as the finish was announced in front of 157,729 spectators.

Code of Honor (14-1) finished second after the disqualification, followed by Tacitus (5-1) and Improbable (the 4-1 favorite).

It was the first time that the horse crossing the finish line in the Kentucky Derby was disqualified.

Maximum safety, the favorite 9/2 second choice ridden by Luis Saez, finished in 2: 03.93 unofficial.

Maximum Safety had won the four races he had participated before Saturday.

The heavy rains that preceded the end of the match led the track to go from fast to sloppy.
