Lonzo Ball has a bruise on his left ankle that could prevent him from spending the six weeks that the Los Angeles Lakers had initially announced that he would miss the call, a source told ESPN.

Ball has been missing since he suffered a grade 3 sprain in his left ankle on Jan. 19.

The second-year scorer initially thought he might have broken his ankle when he was injured in a match at the Houston Rockets, but an X-ray revealed no fracture.

The Lakers will need Ball in the stretch to try to play in the playoffs. They entered Friday night in 10th place of the Western Conference.

"We still miss a key element of our unit in Zo, which we missed a lot," said LeBron James. "But we are definitely together [as a team]and we are eager to see what we are capable of. "

The Los Angeles Times first announced the news of Ball's bone contusion.
