The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been pushed back until 2022, according to a public relations email sent today, January 26.
The email, from Dead Good PR, announces a “scholarship” between The Lord of the Rings: Gollum developer Daedalic Entertainment and NACON, which was officially announced as co-publisher. NACON has released a bunch of sports titles like Rugby 20, WRC 9 and Tennis World Tour 2, as well as Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood and The Upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong. The phrase “Developed for the Xbox and PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC consoles, the game will be released in 2022” is buried in this stock market announcement.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was announced in March 2019 and was slated for release this year on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, and PS5. It looks like the release date has been quietly pushed back to the end of 2021, but it’s unclear why. We know that Lord of the Rings: Gollum to use ray tracing and other new features on PS5, including the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback capability to indicate when Gollum’s stamina is low. Maybe the Daedalic team need more time to make sure the game shines on the latest consoles, hence the delay.
We spoke with the Lord of the Rings: Gollum developers explain why Gollum is such an interesting hero in August 2020, and the team opened up to the in-game combat system and dialogue options minigames. Whenever this game arrives, it will definitely be a game to watch. There is no release date set yet, but if Daedalic or NACON announce one, we’ll update you accordingly.
