Lori Loughlin’s husband Mossimo Giannulli receives no special treatment behind bars

Mossimo Gianulli isn’t enjoying a single moment of his time in prison, but that’s not going to change a judge’s mind. Gianulli did his best recently to convince the court that he would have to serve the rest of his time at home after the first two months of his sentence were spent in solitary confinement due to COVID-19 quarantine procedures. He was so convinced he was owed early release from prison that he filed an emergency petition in mid-January to plead his case. But the judge in her case is making sure the fashion designer serves his full sentence – which is only five months to begin with.

The judge ultimately ruled on Gianulli’s request and concluded that there was no “extraordinary or compelling reason” to allow him to serve the remainder of his time at home, on page six. Gianulli has already been released from solitary confinement and lives with the general prison population. And like his fellow inmates, he receives no special treatment during his time behind bars.

This may come as a relief to many who have watched the college admissions scandal unfold, which has highlighted white privilege and unfair access for those with deep pockets. Gianulli and his wife Lori Loughlin, as well as actress Felicity Huffman, became high profile symbols of all that is wrong with the admissions system at elite colleges and universities – there were rules different for the rich.

Loughlin has quietly served his two-month sentence and is already preparing to return to the actress, but her husband’s constant complaints about the conditions of detention only make him look worse. From his court documents in mid-January obtained by Page Six, it appears he lacks the comforts of home and does not understand that he is paying the price for his crime. “He has a stable family environment – which he will travel to directly and immediately upon release – with resources that will allow him to safely quarantine himself and stay at home for the remainder of his sentence,” the authors wrote.
