Los Angeles could close its doors as early as Sunday after a record number of coronavirus infections on Thursday, a county health official said.
A Sunday lockdown would ban all Thanksgiving gatherings this coming week. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended that you do not travel and congregate while on vacation.
Los Angeles on Thursday recorded a record 5,031 new cases of coronavirus. Los Angeles County health official Dr Muntu Davis said the average number of cases over the past two days was 4,500. Los Angeles County regulations, which go into effect Friday, already limit restaurants to half their outdoor capacity and one-quarter their indoor capacity, and require them to close at 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, Governor Gavin Newsom imposed new restrictions this week in 41 of the state’s counties, where most of the state’s 40 million people live. The limited stay order at the house imposes a curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. It will go into effect on Saturday and will last until December 21.
