Los Angeles Dodgers favorites to win World Series, St. Louis Cardinals take long shot

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been the World Series favorites all season and remain the team to beat early in the playoffs, according to punters.

The Dodgers have +375 to win the World Series at Caesars Sportsbook, followed closely by the Houston Astros at +475. The Tampa Bay Rays are at +650 and the San Francisco Giants at +675. The Chicago White Sox (+750) and Milwaukee Brewers (+800) round out the teams with single-digit odds.

The New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves each have +1,200, the Boston Red Sox +1,600, and the St. Louis Cardinals have +2,000.

The Dodgers, the defending World Series champions, opened at +450 to repeat and were never passed as favorites on the Caesars Sportsbook. The Dodgers host the Cardinals on Wednesday in the National League Wild Card Game.

The Astros were 22-1 on opening day, but saw their chances improve quickly. In June, Houston was 10-1 and drew the biggest reported World Series bet at Caesars Sportsbook, for $ 2 million. Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, a popular furniture store owner from Houston, placed the big bet on the Astros. McIngvale often uses the betting market as insurance on promotional gifts at his Houston store, Gallery Furniture.

“Obviously the Astros would be our worst case scenario,” Craig Mucklow, vice president of trading at Caesars Sportsbook, said in a company statement. “We would also like the Giants, Yankees and Dodgers not to win.”

The Giants overcame long odds to reach the playoffs. They were 100-1 to win the World Series on opening day, the longest chance for any team to reach the playoffs. They were 200-1 in February when Caesars Sportsbook said a Nevada bettor had placed a bet of $ 2,550 on San Francisco that would pay $ 510,000 net if the surprising Giants won everything.

The Cardinals faced even longer than the Giants, and by August they could be found as long as 500-1 to win the World Series. A win in St. Louis would be the worst-case scenario for BetMGM sports betting in their chances of winning the World Series.

The Yankees and Red Sox face off in a wildcard game Tuesday in Boston to open the playoffs. New York is around -125 favorites over the Red Sox in what bookies anticipate will be a heavily staked game.
