LOS ANGELES – Dodgers first baseman Max Muncy started in the third inning of Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers after injuring his left wrist.
Catcher Will Smith lined up a curry from Jace Peterson and shot Muncy. Peterson arrived at the same time, as Muncy had his left-handed glove in front of the runner. The ball hit Peterson in the back and he was called out for interference in play.
Muncy fell onto his back and covered his eyes with his right hand while wincing in pain. He lay there for a few minutes before getting up. He was first replaced by Albert Pujols, who patted Muncy’s back as they passed each other.
Muncy, the fourth-best hitter in the National League at 36, hits .250 for the playoff-tied Dodgers.
