Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti released a video on Twitter on Saturday explaining why he and the city government would not cooperate with federal agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as part of a their raids across the country.
President Trump had initially announced raids on illegal immigrants in June, before retiring to give Congress more time to find a two-party solution. He then announced the operation for this weekend, and a senior administration official told Fox News that the crackdown was underway in New York and several other places.
Garcetti, a Democrat, gave legal advice to those living illegally in Los Angeles and informed them of the city's resources that they could take advantage of – including, but not limited to, a lawyer.
