Los Angeles public schools require students aged 12 and over to be vaccinated against Covid-19 by January to continue attending school in person, making the school system the first major district in the country to impose vaccines for children.

The board of directors for the Unified School District in Los Angeles, the nation’s second largest district, voted unanimously on Thursday to pass the measure. A board member recused himself from the vote because of his shareholding in Pfizer Inc.
