A car chase was still underway in Los Angeles on Tuesday night after more than five hours.

A video posted by FOX 11 in Los Angeles showed a silver Chevy Malibu with Oklahoma license plates traveling the area, with several police vehicles nearby and news helicopters above.

The driver was considered armed and dangerous, according to reports. The vehicle had at least three flat tires after running over a spike strip, KNBC-TV of Los Angeles reported.

What had been a high-speed chase earlier in the evening slowed to less than 5mph after the vehicle was damaged, FOX 11 reported. Police pursued cautiously because the driver was suspected of being in possession of a weapon, according to the report.

The prosecution’s caution was consistent with police training, Joe Buscaino, a Los Angeles city councilor who served as a Los Angeles police officer, told the police station.

He noted that the vehicle chase took place amid a growing period of crime in the country’s second largest city.

“I predict it will get worse before it gets better, unfortunately,” Buscaino said.
