Los Angeles woman got stranded in Chicago since Tuesday due to the repeat of Spirit Airlines companies cancellations against a backdrop of increased travel this summer coronavirus blockages.

Campbell traveled to Chicago for a vacation and tried to get home on Tuesday, but faced repeated cancellations from Spirit.

“At one point I was thinking, ‘Do I rent a car in Vegas and go home,’ but rental car prices are ridiculous during the pandemic. It was going to be $ 400. I thought, ‘ Can I take a bus, ‘”she said.
Desperate for revenue during pandemic shutdowns, car rental companies have sold part of their rental fleets for cash. Now the demand for rental cars far exceeds the supply, causing prices to skyrocket.
“I think at this point I’m probably going to ask for a refund, but I’m probably going to have to spend $ 400 or $ 500 just to get home on a one-way ticket and that’s not my problem,” Campbell added.
She’s far from the only one facing cancellations from the low-cost airline, with other customers taking to social media to lament they are being stranded at airports due to cancellations. and delays.
Spirit has canceled more than 2,000 flights since last Sunday, blamed on “a month of difficult operating conditions in July” due to staff shortages, system failures and weather conditions.

As for Campbell, she added in her interview this week that the cancellations had “scared” her and that she would probably never fly with Spirit again.

Spirit Airlines told Fox News its cancellation rate improved on Thursday and highlighted the CEO’s comments on the matter.
“While Spirit never wants to cancel flights and disturb its guests, Christie called the improvement a step in the right direction. Christie said he expects Spirit’s cancellation rate to continue to rise. improve over the weekend, resuming normal operations by the middle of next week, ”the statement said.
An airline spokesperson told Fox News on Saturday that Campbell had been contacted by Spirit with a flight and was on his way to Chicago.
