The sheriff’s office said it responded to a call reporting domestic violence around 9 a.m. and found the suspect’s grandmother dead on arrival.
Her mother is in stable condition in hospital, the sheriff’s office said.
The suspect fled the house in his grandmother’s car and drove to an outdoor mall, where police believe he intended to drop the car and steal another , said Gautreaux.
The sheriff said the man attempted to steal two cars, shooting a man in the first and two women in the second, before picking up a third vehicle which was parked with its engine running.
Gautreaux said the shooting took place outside a medical center and staff were able to provide care to the victims before emergency services took them to hospital. They are in stable condition, he said.
Members of Parliament located the suspect soon after, and he abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot.
“He got out and there was a short foot chase. MPs shot the subject after he raised a gun and pointed it at them. It is not known at this time if he fired. or not. ”The deputies fired at him, hitting him twice, said Gautreaux.
The suspect is in stable condition in hospital, Gautreaux said.
