The deadly Louisiana man shooting left a state soldier and a woman dead, police said.

Matthew Mire, 31, was taken into police custody on Saturday after a large-scale manhunt, Louisiana state police said shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Mire is suspected of ambushing 19-year-old veteran state soldier Adam Gaubert while he was sitting in his car in Ascension Parish on Saturday morning.

“Private Gaubert embodied everything we stand for; honor, duty, selfless service and courage, ”a state police post said on social media.

“In the days to come, we will mourn his tragic death and honor his service to our department and the citizens of Louisiana. “

The shooting is believed to be the latest in a series of Mire attacks from shortly after midnight Friday through Saturday. The man shot two people in Livingston Parish, before shooting two more in Ascension, including Pamela Adair, 37, who was killed, KLFY-TV reported.

Cops believe the suspect then shot another soldier who tried to stop him in a chase, the station reported.

The soldier is unharmed. After a shootout and a short chase, Mire fled on foot, prompting a massive manhunt.

Mire has been identified as a person of interest where he was wanted on charges of attempted first degree murder, first degree murder and illegal possession of stolen property up to $ 25,000.
