Louisiana State soldier among 2 killed in shooting; suspect caught after manhunt: reports

A wanted suspect in a shootout in Louisiana that spanned multiple parishes and included the death of a state soldier was apprehended Saturday night after a day-long manhunt in the region’s woods, according to information.

At least one other person – believed to be the suspect’s half-sister – was killed during the party, FOX 8 from New Orleans reported.

At least three other people were injured, including one seriously, according to reports.

The slain soldier was identified as Adam Gaubert, a 19-year-old veteran, according to Baton Rouge newspaper The Advocate. Gaubert was found inside his patrol vehicle in Prairieville, about 18 miles southeast of Baton Rouge, hours after being “ambushed,” Col. Lamar Davis told reporters on Saturday evening, Louisiana State Police Superintendent.

“Preliminary information indicates Private Gaubert was shot dead in the area where a homicide took place early in the morning,” Davis said. “… Private Gaubert embodied everything we stand for: honor, duty, selfless service and courage.

Gaubert was reportedly shot at around 5 a.m. on Saturday along National Highway 42 in Ascension Parish, FOX 44 reported in Baton Rouge.

“We would like to share our deepest condolences to the family of Private Adam Gaubert and the Louisiana State Police,” the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook. “Today we have lost not only a fellow police officer, but also a father, husband and friend.”

Other law enforcement officers located the soldier’s body as they pursued the suspect, identified as Matthew Mire, 31.

Louisiana state soldiers exchanged gunfire with Mire after the soldier was shot, but Mire managed to escape on foot, FOX 44 reported.

State Police have issued a public safety alert for East Baton Rouge and Ascension parishes, warning that Mire is considered armed and dangerous, according to the report.

Ahead of Gaubert’s shooting at around midnight on Saturday, state police were called to a mobile home park in Livingston, where they found a man and woman with gunshot wounds. The two are expected to recover, authorities told FOX 8.

Mire allegedly stole a blue van from Livingston in order to flee the scene, authorities added.

At around 3 a.m. on Saturday, lawmakers responded to a shooting in Prairieville, where they discovered another man and woman had been shot. The woman later died of her injuries while the man was in critical condition, FOX 8 reported.

The slain woman, 37, identified as Pamela Adair, was considered Mire’s half-sister, authorities told FOX 8.

Prior to Mire’s arrest, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office said he was wanted for first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, illegal use of weapons, home invasion and illegal possession. stolen items worth up to $ 25,000, the station reported.

No motive for the shooting was immediately clear, authorities said.
