A Louisiana state soldier was killed in the line of duty on Saturday and the man suspected of ambushing him is in custody.
Master Trooper Adam Gaubert, a 19-year-old force veteran, was shot and killed in an area where an early morning homicide took place, police said.
Gaubert was found inside his patrol vehicle in Prairieville, about 18 miles southeast of Baton Rouge, hours after being “ambushed,” Col. Lamar Davis told reporters on Saturday evening, Louisiana State Police Superintendent.

The suspect, identified as Matthew Mire, 31, was taken into custody shortly before 10 p.m. after a day of manhunting in the local woods.
Mire was wanted in a shootout in Louisiana that spanned several parishes and included the death of Private Gaubert.
