Louisiana state soldiers texted about beating black suspect after he surrendered in high-speed chase, say court filings.
Early-of-the-month filings were first reported by a local blog Sound Off Louisiana Thursday, according to the Washington Post. They included swear words from a group chat that Private Dakota DeMoss, who is white, sent three other white soldiers about an “a– whoopin ‘” given to Antonio Harris.
Louisiana State Police wrote on file that the exchange took place after Harris was sent to jail.
“How was his attitude at the prison?” asks his colleague Jacob Brown, according to the documents.
“Complete silence,” replied Private George Harper.
“Lol, he was still digesting this… whoopin,” DeMoss said.
Brown also says, “It’ll take him a few days” and “He’s definitely going to be in pain tomorrow.”
“BET he won’t run away from an adult bear anymore,” says Brown.
“I bet he doesn’t even go to Los Angeles anymore,” DeMoss says.
Harper then says “GRIZZLY. No, he’s going to spread the word, that’s for sure.
DeMos also says, “He’s going to have nightmares for a long time.”
Brown then said “lmao… warms my heart knowing that we could educate this young man.”
A spokesperson for Louisiana State Police said they could not provide further comment on the incident due to ongoing investigations and litigation. Dickerson, DeMoss and Harper are currently on administrative leave.
Brown, DeMoss, Harper and Randall Dickerson were stopped last month on simple battery and fault charges after a two-year excessive force investigation.
During Harris’ arrest in May 2020, DeMoss, Harper and Brown allegedly used excessive force and turned off their body cameras during the chase. Brown also allegedly falsified the use of force and arrest reports.
Brown and Dickerson face charges for using “excessive and unjustifiable force” in arrest of driver suspected of drug possession in July 2019 traffic stop.
Brown, who faced an additional charge of obstructing justice, resigned from the department on Friday, according to Avocado.
