A number of canceled (or otherwise ending) series were on the nominations for the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, unveiled on Tuesday—Lovecraft Country, Pose, The Kominsky method and Zoey’s Extraordinary Reading List chief among them.
While we first told you that Misha Green is Lovecraft Country is not returning for a second season, the HBO horror drama series had a particularly strong performance, scoring a whopping 18 nominations, in the categories Outstanding Drama, Dramatic Actor (Jonathan Majors), Dramatic Actress (Jurnee Smollett), Support Drama Actor (Michael K. Williams), Dramatic Supporting Actress (Aunjanue Ellis) and Guest Drama Actor (Courtney B. Vance), as well as Casting for a Drama Series, Cinematography for a Single Camera Series (One Hour), Fantasy / Science fiction costumes, main title design, prosthetic makeup, musical composition for a series (original dramatic score), musical supervision, sound editing for a comedy or drama series (one hour), sound mixing for a comedy or drama series (one hour)), Special visual effects in a season or film, stunt and writing for a drama series.

FX’s prom culture drama was also impressive today, Pose, which obtained nine nominations. Mj Rodriguez broke into the Dramatic Actress category, while Billy Porter returned to compete once again for the Dramatic Actor. The show by Steven Canals, Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy, which ended its third and final season in June, was also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, Drama Series Direction, Drama Series Writing, Contemporary Hairstyle, prosthetic make-up, contemporary make-up (non-prosthetic) and Contemporary Costumes.

In its first two seasons, Pose marked 11 names. So far, however, only Porter has encountered a statuette, in turn as Pray Tell. The actor made history with his victory in 2019, becoming the first openly gay black man to be nominated and win in a lead actor category.

Chuck Lorre’s comedy was nominated in the categories Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Michael Douglas), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Paul Reiser), Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series (Morgan Freeman) , Exceptional casting for a comedy series, and Exceptional sound mixing for a comedy or drama series (half hour) and animation.
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, recently canceled by NBC after two seasons, won five Emmy nominations, including two for Choreography for Scripted Programming. The others came for guest comedy actress (Bernadette Peters), musical direction, and original music and lyrics. Skylar Astin’s beloved musical once won Mandy Moore the Emmy for Outstanding Choreography for scripted programming. The series came to the end of its second season in May; NBC announced its cancellation the following month, much to the chagrin of fans.

Then there’s the CBS sitcom Mom (who completed her eighth and final season in May) and star Allison Janney, who just landed her six nominations for her turn as recovering addict Bonnie. Today’s comedy actress name brings the actress to a total of 15 career nominations. Janney had previously won Emmys in 2014 and 2015 in the category of Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her turn on the show Chuck Lorre. In 2017, she moved to the lead actress category, where she is now looking to compete again. The series was also nominated for its production and editing.
Finally, there were a number of solo names, including one for actors Aidy Bryant (Acute) and William H. Macy (Shameless). Other shows have marked only one name today included Conan (Variety Discussion Series), Last man standing (Cinematography for a multi-camera series) and Vikings (Outstanding Special Visual Effects in One Episode).
Other canceled / completed series that failed the morning of Emmy nominations included Hypermarket(NBC), Rebel (ABC) and Prodigal son (Fox).
