Almost hours after the deadline, I learned that Nicole Kidman was in negotiations to play Lucille Ball in Aaron Sorkin. Being the Ricardos, social media users took issue with the casting. On Sunday, Ball and Desi Arnaz’s daughter, Lucie Arnaz, set the record straight on who will play her mother.

“Stop arguing about who should play – ‘she doesn’t look like her, her nose isn’t the same, she’s not that funny,’ Arnaz said, mocking complaints about Kidman’s casting. “Trust us. It’s gonna be a great movie and ps the vote is over.”

The daughter of the comedy legend opened up about the casting in a Facebook video, where she also went into great detail about the upcoming project for Amazon Studios. She made it clear to viewers that the Sorkin title will not be a I love lucy reboot or whatever. Instead, it will follow Ball’s relationship with her on-screen husband Desi Arnaz and their on-screen and off-screen relationship.

She reassures fans of Ball and the iconic that there will be humor and romance.

“I don’t think you will be disappointed with this,” she said.

Javier Bardem as Desi Arnaz is opposite the star opposite Kidman’s Ball. The film takes place during a week of production of I like lucy, when Lucy and Desi face a crisis that could end their career and one that could end their marriage.

Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch of Escape Artists will produce. Executive producers are Jenna Block, David Bloomfield of Escape Artists, Stuart Besser, Lucie Arnaz, Desi Arnaz, Jr. and Lauren Lohman.
