Lucy Hale was chosen to play the lead role in CW's upcoming pilot "Katy Keene". Variety has learned.
Katy Keene is a derivative of "Riverdale" based on the character of the same name, Archie Comics. He follows the lives of four characters – including fashion legend Katy Keene – who pursues his dreams in New York. The musical tells the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists who are trying to make themselves known on Broadway, on the catwalks and in the recording studio.
Katy's character is portrayed as a New Yorker from about twenty years old, bold, big hearted and independent, aspiring to become a fashion designer. When she does not work as a personal shopper in a luxury department store, she sails with friends and meets in the big city.
Hale is best known for her role in Aria Montgomery in the Freeform teen drama "Pretty Little Liars" and also starred in the Blumhouse horror thriller "Truth or Dare". It is led by Alissa Leeds at Reel Talent Management and represented by ICM Partners.
She joins the previously announced cast members, including Camille Hyde, Lucien Laviscount, Ashleigh Murray, Jonny Beauchamp and Julia Chan.
Robert Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi will write and produce, along with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater, executive producers. As Variety exclusively reported, Maggie Kiley will lead the pilot. Berlanti Productions will produce in association with Warner Bros. Television.
