The 49-year-old released Thursday night on Twitter a statement confirming Xana's death and thanking hospital staff for the care provided during "intense five months".
The Spaniard, who left his post of national boss of Spain in June to spend time with his family, thanked those who sent good wishes, but asked for "discretion and understanding".

"We want to show our condolences to family and friends, uniting us all today to their pain," he tweeted.
A host of former Enrique players also paid tribute to young Xana, including Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.
"We are with you, all the strength of the world," wrote Argentina on Twitter.
For his part, David de Gea, goalkeeper of Spain and Manchester United, said he was "speechless", while the former club of Enrique, Barcelona, has presented his "condolences and all our sympathy".
Tennis legend Rafael Nadal also extended his condolences to the family. Nadal's uncle, Miguel Ángel Nadal, is a former national teammate of Enrique in Barcelona.
"I am very sad and can not imagine the family's pain, a huge hug on Luis Enrique and the whole family at a distance, a lot of strength and courage in these difficult times," he tweeted.
A host of clubs, including Manchester United, have also paid tribute.
Enrique had a successful player career, representing Spain on 62 occasions. He has also won three Spanish titles in La Liga, once with Real Madrid and twice with his rival Barcelona.
He continued his success as a coach, winning the Champions League at Camp Nou, in addition to two national titles and three Copa del Rey trophies.
